About

I'm Will Shield, a general dentist in Cairns. I qualified with a BDS from James Cook University in 2017, and I do bread-and-butter general dentistry — check-ups and cleans, fillings, crowns, root canals, and denture work — with a particular interest in precision-fit crown and denture cases.

Where I work

I'm an associate at Bupa Dental Cairns, Monday to Thursday, with a fifth clinical day at a second Cairns clinic.

Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry

I'm currently working through the Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry (FRD) with RIPE Global — a two-year program of lectures, workshops, and assessments built around a full-mouth rehabilitation case. It's where I'm taking my clinical work: toward complex restorative and full-mouth rehabilitation.

I build things

Alongside clinical work I build small, focused software for dentists. The first is ClinicalNote, a single-file dental note tool. I'm interested in where AI genuinely helps a working dentist — and where it just adds noise — and I write and teach about it.
